Department Board

It is the deliberative body of the Department and chaired by the Director. Its members include, ex officio, all tenured professors, all researchers—including those on permanent contracts—and staff with equivalent status; the Administrative Manager; an elected representation of the Technical-Administrative and Library staff (not less than 15% of the teaching and equivalent staff); and an equal representation of students.

Furthermore, the Council Board includes, with voting rights, up to 3 representatives of holders of scholarships, research grants, or multi-year research contracts within the Department itself.

Functions

The Department Board exercises the following functions:


a) Proposes the list of scientific-disciplinary sectors relevant to the Department, which will be approved by the Academic Senate;

b) Approves the teaching planning for the degree programs under its competence;

c) Establishes the general criteria for the use of funds assigned to the Department for its research activities, also taking into consideration any needs that may arise and adjustments that become necessary during the year;

d) Establishes the general criteria for the coordinated use of staff, premises, means, and equipment available;

e) Approves proposals for the establishment of PhD programs affiliated with the Department;

f) Approves, within its competence, proposals for the renewal of PhD programs affiliated with the Department;

g) Deliberates on the recruitment of professors and researchers limited to the disciplines referred to in art. a); furthermore, it expresses a preliminary opinion, within 30 days, regarding recruitment to be carried out by other Sapienza departments in the scientific-disciplinary sectors relevant to the Department. Voting rules: Only members of the same category are present and participate in voting in the case of Full Professors (professori ordinari e straordinari); all tenured professors participate in the case of Associate Professors; and tenured professors and researchers participate in the case of researchers. Any disputes are referred to the Academic Senate;

h) Formulates proposals and resolves on its adhesion to the constitution of Research Centers, Research and Service Centers, Inter-university Centers, and Service Centers; expresses an opinion, upon request of the Academic Senate, regarding the proposal to constitute such Centers;

i) Approves, within the deadlines set by academic bodies, the technical-administrative staff needs and the annual research plan;

j) Approves the proposal for the economic and investment budget within the terms and methods provided by the University Accounting and Finance Regulation;

k) Proposes any budget variations, as provided by the Regulation for Administration, Finance, and Accounting;

l) Approves the monthly and annual cash flow planning;

m) Approves contracts and agreements with public and private entities for the execution of research and consultancy activities and external teaching activities;

n) Collaborates with University Governing Bodies and national, regional, and local planning bodies, including in the development and implementation of teaching programs not aimed at obtaining legally recognized degrees, insofar as they respond to specific needs for professional qualification and retraining, training of new highly specialized professional profiles, and lifelong learning;

o) Establishes provisions for the functioning, according to University regulations, of the organizational structures of the library and services—including for teaching activities—headed by the Department, and makes the necessary resources available;

p) Expresses opinions and formulates proposals to the Faculty regarding the planning and experimentation of teaching activities;

q) Deliberates on requests for affiliation to the Department by tenured professors and researchers and evaluates the scientific and organizational implications of affiliation to another Department by its own tenured professors, researchers, and equivalent staff. Voting rules: Only members of the same category participate in voting in the case of Full Professors; all tenured professors participate in the case of tenured professors; all Council Board members except student representatives and technical-administrative staff participate in the case of researchers;

r) Participates in the definition of the governing bodies of Research Centers and Research and Service Centers to which it adheres;

s) Approves the scientific and financial reports submitted by the holders of research projects undertaken and funded pursuant to the aforementioned Regulation and transmits them to the Rector;

t) Elaborates and approves the Annual Single Report on Departmental Research (SUA-RD) referred to in Ministerial Decree no. 47 of 30/1/2013, necessary for the system of self-evaluation, periodic evaluation, and accreditation;

u) Resolves on the Annual Single Report on Study Courses (SUA-CdS) of its primary relevance, giving formal communication to the reference Faculty/Faculties for the relative resolutions;

v) Performs all other functions attributed to it by laws or regulations.
