Among the scientific dissemination activities, DMS faculty members have participated in numerous television and radio interviews, including talk shows broadcast on major channels and widely distributed programs such as Elisir, Uno Mattina, SkyTG24, TG2, and TG5, also using social media (YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn). These interventions covered key themes characterizing the DMS, including Medical Genetics, human microbiota, Space Medicine, Obesity, and Nutrition (also in the context of COVID-19 patients), and the identification of new biomarkers in human tumors. Scientific dissemination activities also involved the use of websites and the production of popular science publications. Two scientific dissemination websites for citizens (http://www.genetica-medica.it and http://www.fivehundredwords.it/idea) were created and directly managed by DMS faculty.
Some of these dissemination activities have been published on specific websites:

Sapienza Medica: “La risposta immunitaria a SARS-CoV-2 fra protezione e danno” (The immune response to SARS-CoV-2 between protection and damage)
Popular science publication titled: “Il possibile ruolo preventivo e terapeutico della vitamina D nella gestione del paziente COVID-19” (The possible preventive and therapeutic role of vitamin D in the management of the COVID-19 patient).
Some DMS faculty members have taken part in initiatives for citizen involvement in research, such as the event titled “Il ruolo della genetica nella medicina predittiva” (The role of genetics in predictive medicine) – Matera 2020.
Within the scope of initiatives dedicated to citizen empowerment, the DMS counts several clinical diagnostic and therapeutic centers useful for patient empowerment, such as:
High Specialization Center for the Study and Cure of Obesity (CASCO), where endocrinologists, psychologists, dietitians, nutritionists, and surgeons work together (Corporate Center of the Policlinico Umberto I);
Regional Center for the Study of Rare Diseases, with three Sections for endocrine and andrological pathologies, Klinefelter Syndrome, and MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity), where endocrinologists, geneticists, and pediatricians work together;
Rare Diseases Help Desk, San Camillo-Forlanini Hospital;
Regional Center for Neonatal Screening for genetic-metabolic diseases.
In addition, various faculty members affiliated with the DMS deliver therapeutic education courses for patients with diabetes and obesity every year. The DMS is also involved in organizing numerous information and prevention days (in collaboration with the Policlinico Umberto I), where many faculty members affiliated with the department offer their professionalism and expertise to public health, such as:
The event “Padel e salute” (Padel and Health), a prevention and awareness campaign dedicated to citizens' health through sport (https://www.padelesalute.it/);
Tennis and Friends – Health and Sport, 2022 edition: Tennis and Friends – Salute e Sport is an event, founded in 2011 on the initiative of FRIENDS FOR HEALTH onlus, which combines Health, Sport, Entertainment, and Solidarity for prevention and health promotion (https://www.tennisandfriends.it/event/roma-2022/);
The event “Festa della donna in salute” (Healthy Woman Festival), a day entirely dedicated to female students and all women of the University, focused on physical and psychological well-being (https://news.uniroma1.it/08032018_1100);
CCM Ministerial Initiative – Prevention in Andrology, “Amico Andrologo” (Andrologist Friend) project (https://www.amicoandrologo.it/);
“Sapienza Salute” Initiative, a medical-health counseling service for University students and staff (https://sapienzasalute.uniroma1.it/);
Carlo Cannella Days - 9th edition - February 21-22, 2020 (program available at https://web.uniroma1.it/dip_dms/sites/default/files/giornatecannella2020.pdf).
Furthermore, several Department faculty members have contributed to the organization/participation in screening and health awareness campaigns, such as:
Fiocchetto Lilla, an awareness day for eating and nutrition disorders (anorexia and bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder) (https://www.salute.gov.it/);
Training and information days aimed at healthcare professionals and potential voluntary marrow donors;
Open Day, Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer (LILT) of Rome, February 22, 2022 (https://www.lilt.it/);
Screening organized on the occasion of the annual World Diabetes Day (November 14) under the aegis of the Italian Society of Diabetology as well as Sapienza in the squares of Rome (blood glucose assessment with glucometer);
Opening of outpatient clinics on the occasion of Women's Health Day (two afternoons a year) with assessment of blood glucose, weight, BP, and cardiovascular risk charts evaluation;
Participation in Race for the Cure in the 2020-22 three-year period, an event for the fight against breast cancer.
Faculty members affiliated with the DMS are constantly engaged in delivering over 200 Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses regarding topics characterizing the DMS. In particular, CME courses have been provided in endocrinology, oncology and immuno-oncology, nutrition and food sciences, reproductive medicine and fertility, andrology, metabolism and obesity, clinical immunology and autoimmunity, regenerative medicine, precision medicine, and transfusion medicine. This activity highlights the DMS's commitment to transferring its university expertise to the extra-university environment, a key theme of the Third Mission.
